Key Changes in Electoral Boundaries

Two New GRCs in the North-East

The rapidly growing Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC has been split into two new four-member GRCs:

  • Punggol GRC: Incorporating Punggol estates and Punggol West SMC.
  • Pasir Ris-Changi GRC: Comprising Pasir Ris estates along with Loyang and Flora estates from East Coast GRC.

Jurong GRC Splits into Multiple Constituencies

The existing Jurong GRC will be divided into four separate constituencies:

  • Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC: Absorbing Bukit Batok SMC and parts of Jurong GRC, Yuhua SMC, and Hong Kah North SMC.
  • West Coast-Jurong West GRC: Taking in Jurong West and Taman Jurong estates.
  • Jurong Central SMC: Formed from parts of Jurong GRC and Yuhua SMC.
  • Holland-Bukit Timah GRC: Absorbing one polling district east of Upper Bukit Timah Road.

West Coast GRC Merges with Jurong West

The newly formed West Coast-Jurong West GRC will replace parts of the existing West Coast GRC, with some areas shifting to Radin Mas SMC and Tanjong Pagar GRC.

Marine Parade Absorbs MacPherson SMC

  • MacPherson SMC will merge into the newly named Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.
  • This GRC will also take in parts of Mountbatten and Potong Pasir SMCs while ceding some areas to East Coast GRC.

Six New SMCs

The addition of new SMCs brings notable changes:

  • Bukit Gombak (from Chua Chu Kang GRC)
  • Jalan Kayu (from Ang Mo Kio GRC)
  • Jurong Central (from Jurong GRC and Yuhua SMC)
  • Queenstown (from Tanjong Pagar GRC)
  • Sembawang West (from Sembawang GRC)
  • Tampines Changkat (from Tampines and East Coast GRCs)

At the same time, five SMCs will be removed from the electoral map: Bukit Batok, Hong Kah North, MacPherson, Punggol West, and Yuhua.

  • Ang Mo Kio: Remains a five-member GRC despite Jalan Kayu SMC being carved out.
  • East Coast: Gains Chai Chee and Siglap estates but loses Loyang and Flora estates.
  • Jurong East-Bukit Batok: New GRC combining Bukit Batok and Jurong constituencies.

Four-Member GRCs

  • Redrawn SMCs: Bukit Panjang, Hougang, Kebun Baru, Marymount, Mountbatten, Pioneer, Potong Pasir, Radin Mas, Yio Chu Kang.

Political Implications of the Changes

Experts suggest that the electoral boundary changes could impact voter support across different constituencies. The PAP, which traditionally holds strong in western Singapore, may benefit from the restructuring of Jurong GRC. Opposition parties like PSP and SDP will need to adjust their strategies, especially in closely contested areas like West Coast GRC and Bukit Batok SMC.

The new constituencies will also see different political leaders stepping up, with key figures like Desmond Lee and Grace Fu expected to play anchor roles in their respective constituencies.

Conclusion

Singapore GE2025 brings significant changes to the electoral landscape. With new constituencies, redrawn boundaries, and shifting political alignments, voters should stay informed about their updated constituencies
