Opening on July 24, the reimagined Singapore Oceanarium is poised to become one of Asia’s top marine attractions. With triple the space of the former S.E.A. Aquarium, this state-of-the-art facility offers 22 immersive zones, a host of new marine inhabitants, and plenty of surprises for visitors of all ages.
A Bigger, Bolder Ocean Experience
After 12 years of welcoming guests, the original S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa underwent a major transformation. The result? The all-new Singapore Oceanarium, now three times its original size and packed with interactive, educational and awe-inspiring exhibits.
Divided into 22 thematic zones, the Oceanarium brings together marine biology, environmental education and cutting-edge design to tell the story of Earth’s oceans—past, present and future.
From prehistoric sea creatures to delicate jellyfish, endangered amphibians and local coastal species, the new oceanarium takes you on an unforgettable underwater journey.
Meet the Star: The Albino Axolotl
One of the most anticipated new residents of the Singapore Oceanarium is the albino axolotl, a rare and charismatic amphibian that rose to global fame after being featured in the popular video game Minecraft.
With its soft pink hue, frilly gills and seemingly permanent smile, the albino axolotl has won the hearts of children and adults alike. A darker, mottled version of the axolotl shares the same habitat, allowing visitors to observe and learn about both variants.
Found in the Conquering Land zone, these critically endangered creatures from Mexico are part of an important educational exhibit about amphibian conservation.
22 Zones to Discover: From Sea Jellies to Ancient Giants
The newly expanded oceanarium is designed for discovery and wonder. Here are just a few of the highlights:
Ocean Wonders
This zone showcases the timeless beauty of sea jellies, some of which have existed for over 500 million years. Cylindrical tanks offer a 360-degree view of species such as the unique fried egg jellyfish and over 1,000 moon jellies swirling within a stunning 6.8-meter kreisel tank.
Singapore’s Coast
Get up close with local marine life in a simulated intertidal walk—minus the wet feet. Spot familiar species like bumblebee snails, spotted seahorses, and pencil urchins. For a more hands-on experience, dip your fingers into a tank of skunk cleaner shrimps and let them gently nibble away dead skin cells.
Ancient Waters
This zone takes visitors back in time with animatronic reconstructions of long-extinct marine creatures. See the towering Dunkleosteus, a prehistoric armored fish, brought to life in dramatic fashion.
With the Singapore Oceanarium mobile app (available from July 23), guests can unlock augmented reality experiences, such as standing face-to-face with these ancient giants.
Fan Favourites Return, Bigger Than Ever
Longtime visitors will be glad to know that beloved exhibits from the original aquarium are still part of the new space—only now enhanced and more immersive.
Open Ocean Habitat
Marvel at the expansive 36-meter-wide viewing panel, now home to over 120 species including manta rays, groupers, and several types of sharks. This breathtaking exhibit remains one of the most popular photo spots in the entire oceanarium.
Shark Tunnel
Walk through the Shark Tunnel to witness majestic predators glide above and around you. With multiple species on display, this immersive tunnel delivers both thrills and educational value.
Kid-Friendly Fun: Pier Adventure
For families with children, Pier Adventure offers a more physically interactive experience. Children aged four and above (or at least 110 cm tall) can explore a suspended rope web overlooking the Jewel of Muscat, a full-scale replica of a 9th-century Arabian dhow.
Usually priced at $10 per person, the attraction is free until August 31 with ticket purchases made via the Singapore Oceanarium app. Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult. Closed-toe flat shoes are required for safety.
Visitor Info and Admission Details
A visit to the Singapore Oceanarium can take around three hours if you wish to explore all zones at a relaxed pace. For comfort, wear walking shoes and prepare to take in sights from around the world—and from under the sea.
Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop before you leave. Exclusive merchandise, including a special Miffy by the seaside collection and plush axolotls, make for great souvenirs.
