SINGAPORE – May 8, 2025 – Sea Group, the Singapore-based tech giant behind Shopee and Garena, has officially rebranded its digital financial services arm SeaMoney as Monee and opened a new global headquarters in Rochester Commons, Singapore.
The rebrand signifies a new chapter for Sea’s financial services business, with Monee now serving as a regional hub to further develop its fintech ecosystem across Southeast Asia and beyond.
Monee HQ: A Fintech Nerve Centre in one-north
The newly launched headquarters spans 200,000 square feet across 10 floors of the 17-storey Rochester Commons building near Buona Vista. The site will initially house around 1,000 finance professionals, with room for up to 1,500 staff as the company expands.
Sea chose May 8 for the HQ’s opening, marking 16 years since the company began as a gaming start-up operating from a rented shophouse in Maxwell Road.
Singapore: A Strategic Base for Regional Fintech Growth
Speaking at the launch event, Manpower Minister and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Dr Tan See Leng commended Sea’s contribution to Singapore’s digital economy and praised Monee’s alignment with the country’s vision for fintech innovation.
Dr Tan highlighted that Monee has established several Centres of Excellence in Singapore, focusing on product management, risk and compliance, and anti-money laundering and fraud prevention.
“Such capabilities are key in protecting our financial system from misuse, and in ensuring Singapore remains a trusted international financial centre,” said Dr Tan.
MariBank and Monee Drive Financial Innovation
Monee’s digital banking arm, MariBank, was also spotlighted during the event for its overseas funds transfer service launched in April 2025. The service allows businesses to pay invoices in 10 currencies across 13 countries, while individuals can make international transfers with ease.
Sea’s broader fintech platform now reaches users in eight markets, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Brazil.
A Vision for Regional Financial Connectivity
Sea’s chairman and CEO Forrest Li emphasized the strategic role of Singapore in Sea’s journey, stating:
“It is only with this strong home base that we are able to build a regional fintech ecosystem, which we hope can uplift communities across South-east Asia and beyond.”
As a next step, Monee will consolidate its digital banks under a Singapore-based banking group, including MariBank Singapore and SeaBank Philippines.
Singapore’s Role in Fintech Leadership
The rebranding of SeaMoney to Monee, coupled with the opening of its global HQ, underscores Sea’s commitment to making Singapore its financial innovation base while enhancing digital connectivity across Asia.
With Shopee and Monee both headquartered in Singapore, Sea continues to play a key role in driving the nation’s ambitions to become a global leader in digital finance and e-commerce.
