SINGAPORE – May 23, 2025. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has issued an advisory warning travellers of very heavy traffic at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints during the upcoming June school holidays (May 31 – June 29) and the Hari Raya Haji long weekend (June 6 – June 9).
Expect Delays: Up to 3-Hour Waits Possible
If you’re planning a trip across the Causeway, be prepared for significantly longer waiting times to clear immigration, especially during peak departure and return periods. During the Vesak Day long weekend (May 8–13), over 3 million travellers crossed the land checkpoints, with daily peaks of over 546,000. Some drivers experienced waits of up to three hours.
ICA’s Key Advice for Travellers
To minimise delays and ensure smoother journeys, ICA recommends the following:
Check Traffic Conditions Before Travel
Monitor real-time updates on checkpoint traffic via the MyICA mobile app or the OneMotoring website before heading out.
Travel by Cross-Border Buses
Those without personal vehicles are encouraged to use cross-border bus services, which typically move faster through dedicated bus lanes.
Cooperate with ICA Officers
Comply with all instructions, observe lane discipline, and avoid queue cutting—offenders will be turned away and required to re-queue.
Important Requirements for Cross-Border Travel
Before heading to the checkpoints, ensure you meet all travel and documentation requirements:
Valid Passport
- All travellers must have at least 6 months’ validity on their passports.
Re-entry Permits
- Singapore Permanent Residents must ensure their Re-Entry Permits are transferred to any newly issued passports.
Use QR Code Clearance
- Travellers using cars or motorcycles can generate QR codes via the MyICA app for faster immigration processing.
- Bus commuters can also use QR codes at automated lanes and special assistance lanes in bus halls.
Foreign Vehicle Compliance
- Vehicles must have a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and Autopass card issued by LTA, along with valid motor insurance.
- Vehicles lacking these requirements will be turned back at the border.
Safety First: No Tolerance for Queue Cutting
The ICA has reiterated that queue cutting contributes to major congestion and endangers fellow motorists. Offending drivers will be turned away and made to re-queue from the back.
