Looking for a unique café experience in Singapore? Tucked inside a cosy HDB flat in Sengkang is Brew With Grace, a takeaway-only home café offering more than just coffee. Helmed by former 3D lighting artist Grace Teo, the space combines artisanal drinks, Studio Ghibli-inspired aesthetics, and the heart-melting presence of Totoro, her fluffy British shorthair cat and café mascot.
Totoro the Cat: The Real-Life Maneki-Neko Greeter
From the moment you arrive, you’re likely to be welcomed by Totoro, who waves a paw like a real-life maneki-neko (lucky cat). With chubby cheeks and an irresistible charm, Totoro sets the tone for the comforting, slow-living vibes that Brew With Grace is known for.
Grace affectionately calls him “Baobao,” which means “precious one” in Mandarin. His payment? A steady supply of Churu treats and endless cuddles.
A Slice of Ghibli Magic in Sengkang
The café’s aesthetic is a love letter to Grace’s past in animation and her admiration for Studio Ghibli. Think warm lighting, low-seating furniture, lacy curtains, fairy lights, and gentle background tunes from beloved anime. It’s a place where time slows down—ideal for customers to relax, colour, journal, or simply exist.
Every detail in the café reflects intention and care, from the rugs on the wooden floor to the ever-present scent of pine and the comforting glow that fills the space.
From Burnout to Brewing: Grace Teo’s Healing Journey
The story behind Brew With Grace is just as touching. Grace once worked long, demanding hours in the animation industry, which led to burnout, depression, and anxiety. Seeking healing, she found solace in a home-based pottery studio—and in a single, life-changing espresso.
“I’d never felt so calm despite the caffeine,” she said. That first cup sparked a journey that would lead her to barista training and eventually, the launch of her own café in late 2023.
A Thoughtfully Curated Menu
Grace keeps things simple but satisfying. The coffee menu features:
- Black (Hot/Iced) – S$3
- White (Hot/Iced) – S$4
- Mocha (Hot/Iced) – S$4.50
Not into coffee? Try one of her signature matcha drinks:
- Strawberry Matcha Oat – S$5.50
- Yuzu Matcha Oat – S$5.50
No extra charge for oat milk or iced options. Add an extra espresso shot for just S$1. She uses Dutch Colony beans and ceremonial-grade matcha, ensuring quality in every cup.
Small Batches, Big Heart
Grace prepares every drink fresh upon order, without rushing. “I don’t take on too many orders because I want my lovelies to enjoy the vibes while waiting,” she shares. All pick-ups are by appointment only—no walk-ins—to ensure a peaceful flow.
Despite keeping prices low, Grace isn’t in it for profit. “I charge just enough to cover the cost of my ingredients,” she says, smiling.
A Community of “Lovelies”
Her customers—whom she lovingly calls her “lovelies”—range from students and working professionals to couples and creatives. Some stop by to sip slowly, others to cuddle with Totoro or enjoy the serene surroundings.
Grace says she’s been overwhelmed by the kindness of her customers and neighbours. “They’ve been incredibly respectful, mindful, and supportive,” she says. Her husband, too, plays a big role behind the scenes, making sure she eats and rests.
